DeweysGood News: We had a wonderful summer as we shared in churches and camp meetings. Frank attended two camp meetings in June in Iowa and in Minnesota.

In July we were both at Camp Sychar in Ohio (left), which has supported us for several years now. We shared with the teens (we were somewhat trembling, but ready for anything!) and were encouraged when several teens later told us how they had been blessed through us that day.

kids getting faces paintedThe afternoon of Missions Day was a fun festival with kids getting faces painted (right), counselors getting whipped cream in the face, and others enjoying lots of games. We got to distribute the rewards they earned. It was a great day.

Continuing Good News: In July we participated in a training program (LivingFree.org) that uses small groups in the church to help people overcome life-controlling issues such as substance abuse, poor relationships, and behavior problems.

Our field leader in Ukraine tells us that these are major issues among new Ukrainian Christians and that the churches are in great need of this program. We are eager to get to the field to start our ministry of building up and training the Ukrainian lay leadership, and this will be an effective tool for us to use. But we need to get there to use it.

More Good News: August 7 was the dedication day of the Home of Hope in Berdyansk, Ukraine. Many friends from the U.S. attended this and the dedication of the church at Primorsk on August 8. At the Home of Hope, the sanctuary is not yet complete, but it should be done by next spring with a separate dedication by Easter. Praise the Lord for the ministries that will reach out to the city of Berdyansk through this building—a youth center, a counseling center, a bookstore, a Christian coffee house, and more. We can’t wait to get there and be a part of the ministries that will be carried out through the Home of Hope.

Bad News: In Ukraine the continual inflation is having an effect on purchasing building supplies and paying the salaries of the workers. Most construction supplies have doubled in price since January 2008. This is why the sanctuary is not yet complete. At Primorsk, the grounds need landscaping and a fence.

Anika FaithLanceExcellent News!!!! We have a new little granddaughter, Anika Faith (left), born July 7. She is a sweetie pie, very petite with lots of dark hair. She is the daughter of our son, Evan, and his wife, Lori. She also has two older sisters who love to be little mothers.

Our daughter Laura’s youngest son celebrated his first birthday on July 26. Lance (right) is handsome, strong-willed, and lovable. We love our grandkids so much! What a joy they are to us.

Bad News: We had hoped to leave for Ukraine at the end of September so we could settle in before the winter months and cold weather arrived. However, since we don’t have all our support yet, we can’t leave. We now hope that we can get to Ukraine by the new year. Please pray with us that the Lord will speak to individuals and to churches about how they can help meet the needs of the churches in Ukraine through our ministry there. We know that God’s provision is never late, and we are trusting Him to provide for all our needs through good people like yourselves.

Good News: The good news for us these days is that we have two-thirds of our support raised. We have been working on this for a year now, and we are especially thankful to all the faithful supporters who have been with us for the years we were in India and who now continue to support us as we prepare to go to Ukraine. Thank you so much. You are an encouragement to us.

We need more opportunities to be in churches and with individuals to share about our ministry in Ukraine. We would like to meet with churches and people who want to support missions, but just haven’t had the opportunity. If you would like us to visit your area of the country or to be in your church, please call us and let’s make arrangements to get together. Our months of October, November, and early December are available now for meetings.
